Amplifying worker voice in the global FMCG sector
Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) membership organisation, AIM-Progress, understands the critical role that effective grievance mechanisms play in preventing and addressing human rights violations in the workplace and amplifying worker voice.
However, with a vast range of members operating in multiple supply chains and geographies, the task of putting this in practice presented a significant challenge.
Solution: Piloting the Reckitt grievance mechanism toolkit
Together with Reckitt, AIM-Progress piloted the Reckitt Grievance Mechanism Toolkit with a select group of their members and their suppliers. This practical toolkit was developed by Oxfam Business Advisory Service and is designed to support companies with planning, designing, and implementing effective site-level grievance mechanisms in their supply chains.
““The team at Oxfam Business Advisory Service demonstrated expertise, cultural sensitivity, and professionalism throughout the project's duration. Additionally, their expert consultants worked closely with the AIM-Progress project team to ensure a successful outcome.””

Impact: Shifting mindset on the value of engaging workers
The toolkit was piloted with nineteen tier-one suppliers of three member companies, spanning a total of fifteen countries, including India, China, and Brazil. AIM-Progress published an executive summary, highlighting the key learnings and initial results of the project. The report showed that more than three quarters of the participating suppliers had actively involved workers in the design and implementation of their grievance mechanism and had demonstrated a shift in mindset on the value of engaging with workers from the outset.
Yael further commented,
“We have made the summary of the project publicly available, as we believe the learning obtained from it will be useful to our members and beyond. We appreciate the work of the Oxfam Business Advisory Service team and look forward to future collaborations”.
